Weddings

We are happy to undertake weddings for anyone resident within the parish, or where there is a strong and compelling reason to conduct the wedding here. Initial approaches should be made to one of the ministry team, who will be happy to chat this through with you: contact us.

Funerals

The church is available for a funeral service of anyone from within the parish, or where there is a compelling reason for the funeral to be undertaken in the church. The church can seat around 250-300 people. For the funerals of members there is no charge, for people living in the parish there is a small fee to cover the running and cleaning costs and you can find out more via the ‘contact us’ page.

Baptism/Thanksgiving

Camelon Parish Church conducts baptisms in accordance with the law of the Church of Scotland, which allows baptism under the following circumstances:

Act V 2000

"4. Baptism may be administered to a person upon profession of faith.

1. The minister and Kirk Session shall judge whether the person is of sufficient maturity to make personal profession of faith, where necessary in consultation with the parent(s) or legal guardian(s).
2. Baptism may be administered only after the person has received such instruction in its meaning as the minister and Kirk Session consider necessary, according to such basis of instruction as may be authorised by the General Assembly.
3. In cases of uncertainty as to whether a person has been baptised or validly baptised, baptism shall be administered conditionally.

5. Baptism may be administered to a person with learning difficulties who makes an appropriate profession of faith, where the minister and Kirk Session are satisfied that the person shall be nurtured within the life and worship of the Church.

6. Baptism may be administered to a child:

1. where at least one parent, or other family member (with parental consent), having been baptised and being on the communion roll of the congregation, will undertake the Christian upbringing of the child;
2. where at least one parent, or other family member (with parental consent), having been baptised but not on the communion roll of the congregation, satisfies the minister and Kirk Session that he or she is an adherent of the congregation and will undertake the Christian upbringing of the child;
3. where at least one parent, or other family member (with parental consent), having been baptised, professes the Christian faith, undertakes to ensure that the child grows up in the life and worship of the Church and expresses the desire to seek admission to the communion roll of the congregation;
4. where the child is under legal guardianship, and the minister and Kirk Session are satisfied that the child shall be nurtured within the life and worship of the congregation;

and, in each of the above cases, only after the parent(s), or other family member, has received such instruction in its meaning as the minister and Kirk Session consider necessary, according to such basis of instruction as may be authorised by the General Assembly."

Alternately we offer a ‘Thanksgiving and Blessing’ service in which we receive and celebrate the arrival of a child into a family and pray God’s blessing on them. There is no requirement for promises to be taken and ‘God Parents’ would be welcome to be a part of this celebration. The main difference between the two is that there is no water of Baptism used in a Thanksgiving and Blessing service.
